The temps you should be measuring are the ones that your snake can come into contact with. If you are using substrate like aspen then it can dig on down to the bottom (which one of my snakes likes to do), that is where you would measure the temps.


Place the probe where the snake will bask. If it's on top of the substrate all of the time, then measure there, if its up against the glass under the substrate measure the temp down there. I use plain, white paper so it makes my readins pretty easy. BTW - the ambient temperature according to NERD website should be between 78 and 80 degrees (with a warning not to EVER let the ambient temp drop below 75 degrees).
