heh i used to live in Arkansas...i can't say i know too many (acctually i know none) breeders in Arkansas..but there are plenty of reputable breeders that will ship to you

Where in Arkansas are you from? I moved to Wynne, then Pine bluff, then Little Rock/Maumelle..i moved to Orlando about a year and a half ago, but i still visit family in AR a few times a year

If you're open to the idea of getting a snake shipped to you, you can get one from anywhere.

if this is your first snake i would personally not buy one online. go to local pet stores and handle them to see which one suits you best

I would definitely have to disagree with this. Most pet stores know far less about the animals they sell than a breeder would. How many horror stories have we all read (or experienced in person) about the poor standards of care and misinformation offered by most local pet stores?

A good breeder (and there are plenty to choose from) will not only get you a healthy and feeding animal, but is available to provide knowledgeable and informed support afterwards.

Not being able to meet the animal in person first is a small price to pay for escaping the stress and vet bills from dealing with an unhealthy, non-feeding pet store snake who may or may not survive.

Also, just as a suggestion...get a female. She'll cost a little bit more than a male, but you will have the advantage of being able to place her much more easily should you need to rehome her. Adult males are only resaleable as pets, where an adult female will be highly desireable to breeders. If anything happens in your life and you are unable to keep her for whatever reason, you will know that you can find a home for her relatively easily.

And if, on the other hand, you get hooked by the addiction and decide to try your hand at breeding, you'll have a head start with a female, which take much longer to reach maturity than males do. :-)

If you're set on meeting in person, and depending on how far you want to drive, Bob Clark is in OKC is where I got my first ball. He was very good to deal with...came in specially for me on a Sunday morning and opened up the shop...even let me hold an albino, and all I was buying was a little normal male for a pet.
