    anti-social ball python

my baby ball python has been acting really shy lately for almost two weeks. when i first got him he was always out and about or under his log where i could always get him. now he is in this tight cylinder type hiding place that has three holes in it for entering and exiting but i can't remove him he has to come out on his own. the only time he comes out is when it's feeding time. is this behavior normal and he just likes the hiding place or is he sick?

Sounds like a day in the life of a ball python to me.

    Re: anti-social ball python

Actually, ball pythons are naturally shy secretive creatures ... typcially, "cruising" the cage is an behavior related to being in a new environment, a husbandry issue, sensing it's time for feeding day, or a host of other possible causes.

Sounds like your ball python is doing what it's supposed to do.

You might want to consider a different type of hide. Something that is easier to access the snake.

I'd agree with Christie here. Nice dark, tight hides are what the snake needs of course but personally I don't want anything in their enclosure that I can't get them out of easily. We have a few BP's around here and I know if I walked into our snake room right now I'd likely not see a one of them (especially since last night was feeding night). They love their hides and are quite happy it seems curled up in the dark contemplating their snakey lives.
