Anyone experienced with a blind BP?

I'm worried that Chimera is going blind in one of his eyes. When feeding he usually never missed the target, but lately he's been missing the rat 3-4 times before finally hitting it. His one eye kind of looks silver. I know its not an eyecap, because I avidly hunt for them once they all shed. Hes a little head shy so I moved my finger towards him from both side to see if he'd move. He was slightly slower to move on that one side. If anyone has any experience with this or something similar please let me know. I can take pictures if need be.

if the snake is missing its prey when it strikes then there's definitely something wrong with its vision.....I'm not the expert here but I think the snake should be checked out by a Vet soon

I have a rescue BP (Ray) that is completely blind in one eye, and partially blind in the other. He does not seem to have much trouble eating, and hits rats like a sledgehammer.


If you are worried, I would make a trip to the vets office and see what they have to say about his eye. If he is loosing sight, it will probably take him a while to adjust.

I think I might take him for good measure. He's been really, really skittish lately. He's never aggressive and he's always been a tad shy, but it's get to be ridiculous now.

Thata why its possible for them to eat while in blue phase of the shed cycle .

Some ball pythons eat in shed, others don't.

I generally don't feed them while they are in shed, but there's been times that I've dropped a rat in the tub, and the snake nails it before I even have a chance to realize that it is in blue.

No big deal...just keeper preference.

You can, but some snakes don't like to eat in the blue cycle. Kozma and Chimera will eat any day any time I want to offer them food. When Hades was a regular eater he refused to eat during blue cycle. It just depends.
