Far from a new idea there babeI started a rack, using concrete mixing tubs for juvenile African Rocks, and Burmese. Most people are against using black plastics, because it doesn't allow light in the rack, when in all reality I've seen them acting more naturally and a little healthier. Even my problem feeders eat more readily and seem calmer when handled. Go to Lowes, or Home Depot and pick up some Concrete mixing tubs. Its just as thick, if not a little thicker than regular tubs, and they run about $5 a piece. They're rounded off, so they're more suitable for rat racks than the tubs your planning on using as well, as the rats have no where to really bite onto to chew through. Good luck in whatever you choose!
