cheese fondue? i need tips folks!!!

okay so we are getting together with our friends for a fondue. we both bought new pots over christmas.

i've only ever participated in a fondue twice in my life... so...

i'm doing the cheese fondue and have to bring all the food for it. i'm getting the 'ready to melt swiss cheese fondue' from the supermarket (and hey, what's so super about the market???)

i figured i'd get two loaves of super yummy ciabatta bread, some raw cauliflower and broc.

but what else do you use in a cheese fondue?

i need to be creative here... heeeeeeeeelp.

(and i'm making pecan pie for dessert! - thanks to kara )

I love fruit! I know it sounds strange, but green apples + fondue = YUM! (to me) ... BEST of luck with you Fondue-a-rama!

Ditto! That's exactly what I was thinking. Tart, green apples. And cubes of thick, dark rye bread. Ohhhh man....now I'm seriously hungry!

I just put a fondue kit onto our bridal registry.. seems like fun! I can't offer any hints as of yet.. but I hear that chocolate really sticks it up.

I couldn't agree more on the apples. They ROCK!!! I also like pumpernickel bread, but remember to let the bread dry out a bit or it will fall apart in the dipping.

I'd say tomorrow morning. You want it a tad dry, not croutons. Worst case scenario you can throw it in the oven for a couple minutes.

That sounds lovely. Where's my invite?!?!
