    Arrow Lost (within a room)

Ok my ball python got out of its tub bcause i didnt correctly latch it close so it went into the closet open area which is under our heating vent in the floor.
its a small space but big enough for him to get in and out of. My question is, if I leave some water and a hide with a dead fuzzy mouse inside it will he be able to smell the water and the fuzzy or just the fuzzy? and if I do put the fuzzy in the hide should I just do it at night instead of in the morning so I may have a better chance of catching it and putting it back SECURELY into its hide?..Also I almost had it one time when i seen him near the vent but i only seen his tail, his tail was enough to pull him out by but i didnt want to stress him out more or cause stress in general so disappiontedly i let him slip back into the unknown (per se because i know where he went)

    Re: Lost (within a room)

Always remember, 95% of the time they can be found within 10-15 feet of their enclosures. Do you have no access to that small space at all? As far as getting further into it or giving yourself more room? They are very sneaky and are experts at getting in and out of spaces. Especially ones you wouldnt even think they could get in and out of. I would try to get into that space where you think it is.

And I wouldnt worry about the stress at this point. If you have a chance to grab its tail, then do it. You should only worry about the snakes safety at this point. He can clear his stress back in his enclosure.

If that is not possible then try the leaving the "fuzzy" close to that vent. The water would not be necessary. An upside down shoe box is probably the best bet. With a hole cut in it of course.

And hopefully you can learn from this and next time not forget to latch your enclosure. lol

    Re: Lost (within a room)

I appreciate all of your help and thanks for not biting my head off for making a mistake of this sort lol....However, no I can't reach that space at all, not only is it under the vent (the hole), the vent is also under my tank stand that is holding up a 55 gallon tank. However if the snake were to come out enough so i could grab it, I'd have enough room to reach it without knockin over the tank. So I will put an upside down shoe box with a hole in it near the vent and we'll see what happens from there on..thanks again for your help its appreciated greatly.

You may have to move the tank and the tank stand. And unscrew the vent. It doesnt sound like much work at all. Id recommend getting help though.
