Need help, computer virus! Im FREAKING out.

Okay, so I downloaded what I thought was a new version of QuickTime because a video wouldnt work. So I downloaded it and all of a sudden I have ,magically reciever free spyware programns, I have ballon poping up on bottom right corner saying to get this buy that. It changed my home page to a spyware thing. I have MCAfee going right now but it is out of date (of course my dumb fault) I deleted the spyware programn thing already. Then since I dont know about my computer software, looked through and seems like a bunch of new stuff but im not exactly sure if its new or not. It says last use was on 3/01/06*.... I didnt get my computer until August of 06.

Some one help guide me through and tell me how to get rid of it.

I use and like Spybot spyware remover. A free spyware download. You can google it.

Try lavasoft, if your using windows try defender, spybot or AVG anti spy. All of these are free and very easy to use

I agree spybot is decent but wont get everyting.You can find it on tucows. Use it with (meco.is) im not sure what the name of it is but thats the site.That should take care of everything.again gl.

Okay, im not able to accsess the internet anymore. I think I found the virus under add/remove programns. I have never seen it there and it keeps poping up as a balloon telling me to buy this stuff. Its called system alert popup. It wasnt added by toshiba like most of the others. When I tryed to remove it, my computer shut down, but I was able to get it to turn back on.
Any others information would be great.
Also, none of the other computers have this sytem alert popup on the computers. Do you think thats it?

If you aren't able to access the internet, how are you able to post here?
Download Spybot and Ad-Aware and run them. You don't have a virus, you have spyware.

Why are you under the impression you have a virus? Just to voice my opinion... no one can clean a computer better then a human. Programs run stream line processes that won't really complete the needed task on every machine.

I've dealt wit the malware you speak of on a few user computers at work, its a B**** to get rid of but it is possible. I can't remember the exact name otherwise I'd point you to the cleaning instructions. Best advice I can give at the moment is to do a google search of the name of whatever product it wants you to buy. You should get some informational hits and be able to find the cleaning instructions.


If its the one I think it is most spyware scanners will NOT be able to get rid of it, but its been a while since I last dealt with it.

We got that a couple of months ago its from a company in Russia(at least the one we go was). My wife who is a microsoft system engineer ended up backing up stuff we wanted saved and wiped out the drive. This option sucks but she couldnt get anything else to work and she even changed the registry. Sorry

**** I ran McAfee and it came up clean. But I still have al this crap.
And to who ever asked why im under the impression of having a virus, it because I dont know crap about these kinds of things.
And to who asked about how im on the internet if it doesnt work..... we have 3 computers in the house. @ are fine, my personal laptop is screwed. Thanks for the help.
