    For the computer gurus...

    I have a question....

I build my own computers, and program them and such, but I'm having a bit of a problem with my modem. My DSL modem keeps resetting every couple minutes. I have no clue why. Anyone have any general idea's, before I call my ISP?

What do you mean by resetting? Is it pulling another IP or is it a hard reset in which it powers off and then on?

It will go from accessing the internet etc. and all the lights being on with the activity light blinking when I get on my browser or get on a different site or do anything on the internet, to the DSL light blinking red and having to reconnect. I have SBC right now.

Are you just losing connection rapidly? I had that problem with my DSL a few months ago and it turned out to be a fault filter (the one that plugs into your phone jack then you plug the DSL line into that).

Yeah, all the sudden it just cuts out. It sucks lol. It makes it hard to talk to anyone online, or browse the web or anything.

Yep, I'd check the filter and replace it if you have another one. Is the modem plugged in directly to your computer, or do you have it going into a router?

From my experiences, most of the problems I've had with DSL have all had to do with the ISPs offsite equipment... of course they'll never admit to it.

It's plugged directly into my computer. I only have those small filters that come with the stuff SBC gave us. I don't have the large one like whats plugged into the jack right now. Will that do?

    Re: For the computer gurus...

I'm not sure which large filter you're referring to. The only ones that I'm aware of are the ones that plug into the jack and then you plug the phone/dsl line into it.

How long has this been happening, and does it happen constantly or does it come and go?
