I missed the one on "everything that grows"... interesting way of putting it, but for the most part it's true (cells don't grow under when cultured under hypoxic conditions). Decent way of explaining something I suppose. The most common way to say it is "all organic matter."

Re: does a banana have dna?

yes, that's true... but the question was.... does a banana have dna... so the answer would be "yes". so you answered correctly!!!

thought i'd offer two possible correct responses... cause honestly, who doesn't like a good multiple choice question?

I do like the "everything on the planet has dna" one . I promise, tonka toys do not have DNA... but dancing carrots do.

Re: does a banana have dna?

"yes, anything which grows has dna"

There are viruses who have their genetic information written soley in RNA, a related nucleic acid.

Prions are infectious agents composed soley of protein. (think made cow disease).

Whether or not to consider these infectious agents living or non-living is another matter.....but they certainly have the capacity to grow in numbers.

    Crystals can also grow.....

So I'd say the best answer is simply "yes it does"

Re: does a banana have dna?

Huh... crystals never even occured to me. But that's certainly true.

However, it was my impression that the consensus is viruses are NOT living matter, since they don't have the capacity to replicate themselves without a host cell.

Either way crystals is the most obvious and the one that managed to totally escape me .

Tapeworms can't replicate themselves without a host flea.

And there are hosts of other parasites with gloriously intricate life cycles which are inextricably tied to a series of hosts. That doesn't make them any less alive....
