    Frozen mouse question

I fed my BP's for the first time last night, pinkys. After reading up here I know they were to small, so I'm going out tonight to get bigger frozen mice. Anyways one of my BP's ate his but the other didn't, I left it in there over night and took it out this morning and threw it way. My question is next time with the bigger mice if I leave it in there over night and they don't eat it would it be ok to put them back in the freezer or should I just throw them away. I'm going tonight to get bigger frozen mice and feed them both again tonight, the one that did eat the pinky was just a snack for the size of the snake he is. Thanks!!

    Re: Frozen mouse question

I wouldn't. The only time i'd put it back in the freezer is if he refuses, and then I put it in the freezer immediately. Letting it sit over night gives it time to start breaking down, and by the time you leave it sitting for a few hours, refreeze it, then thaw it, and attempt again...it can be a pretty nasty smell, probably began to rot...which is not a good thing to feed to your snakes.

If you leave it in overnight I wouldn't recommend refreezing it. I use hemostats and put on a little dead rat zombie dance and if they don't take it within a couple minutes, I'll toss it back in the freezer and try a couple days later. If they don't take it a second time, I'll either feed it to someone else or toss it.

    Re: Frozen mouse question

I've just fed my BP for first time last weekend after he refused for 4 weeks-ish .. from trial and error I found that very slowly moving the rat/mouse side to side approx 3-4 inches from BP's head got him interested and he struck and devoured the fuzzy ...also I scented a piece of cardboard with mouse innards before I threw one out and each time I tried to feed him I left the card in the viv' to scent the enclosure(hopefully he associates the scent with feeding time next time) and removed it after he took the fuzzy ... but I think patience is the key - he'll take it when he's in the mood assuming all viv' conditions are suitable and he's comfy ... thats my worth .. best of luck with the feeding and I'm sure your bp will come good
if you are what you eat, I'm fast easy & cheap !!

lately my snakes have been refusing food(probably because of the cold weather) and if they dont eat it, i refreeze it ONCE and if they refuse it again, i throw it away.

    ditto
unless I try leaving it over night.. in that case if it's not gone in the morning I throw it out
