You can transport your BP in a snake bag or pillow case (to reduce stress) placed in some type of container/box where it would be best to put a heat pack to keep him warm.

Oy...if I had to take my snake out in these temps, I'd make sure it was a very well insulated container. A styrofoam lined box filled with batting (pillow stuffing stuff) will work well. If you can't get something like that before you have to go, fill a cardboard box with towels and make sure the snake is bagged securely and snuggled down in a cocoon of towels with more towels over the top of him. A small hand-warmer pouch would help, too, if he's going to be exposed to the cold for more than a quick run to and from the car. (Preheat the car before you leave.)

EDIT: Just a note...I suggest a cardboard box instead of a plastic tub because the cardboard will insulate against sudden temperature changes much better than thin plastic siding.

This is how I do it. It works for me.

    1. Snake gets put in a pillow case or snake bag tied off of course.
    2. Get a old towel, throw it in the dryer for 15 to warm it up (right before you leave). Put snake in box with the warm towel and boogie out the door in to the car.
    3. Turn car heat on super blast and dehydrate myself on way to and back from the vet.

Re: hey what do you put your snake in?

I used the styrofoam box he was shipped in, with the addition of a hot water bottle in the bottom. My car does not have very good heat (elderly VW), and the trip was about 30 minutes. He arrived warm and active and it stayed warm for the return trip too.

By "hot" of course I mean comfortably warm...

If I didn't have the styrofoam box, I'd use a small cardboard box, several layers of bath towels, and the hot water bottle & snake in the middle. I've transported dozens of newborn kittens this way and they do fine. In a small enough space, the hot water bottle gives off plenty of heat even when it's wicked cold out. Just don't make it boiling hot!

    We live to help!

As for taking snakes outdoors in the summer....I think it's ok if it's done only on rare occassions and only briefly, such as for photographs. Ball pythons are easily stressed and most likely would not appreciate frequent trips outdoors just for the heck of it. Boas or other more "laid back" snakes might do better for longer visits to the yard.

Of course, when doing so, make sure you're not putting your snake on a lawn treated with pesticide...and never, ever ever take your eyes off it or have your hands very far away as it would be easy for them to slither off and either get lost, or get themselves way high up in a tree or something.

Small totable rubbermaid w/ towels in it and a heat pak sock/hand warmer tucked in a sock under the towels. Keeps the rubbermaid a nice 85 degrees.
And do preheat the car. On the trip to the car I cover the rubbermaid in a big fluffy towel.
