    Wink When people say.....

You'll hear weezing and popping sounds if your snake has an RI.

How loud are these noises, would i be able to hear them just handling the snake or would i have to listen very very closely.

Cause my snake makes a little clicking sound sometimes, if i put him up to my ear, but other than that theres nothing noticeable.

so how loud are these sounds ussually?

    (im a worry wart)

Well there really is not a set "level" of the sounds. It could range from a "low" pop to a popcorn popper noise(only in sever cases though). If you are hearing a constant "click" it never hurts to have a vet look at him/her.If you are "a worry wart" now never attempt breeding them as its VERY stressfull lol.I watch the eggs like i am the parent lol.My daughter is the only kid in her school that can say she shares her birthday with 11 corn snakes the last year(04/05 season).

LOL yea i'm not looking to breed ANY time soon, i'm still a rookie at best when it comes to snakes.

The click is very very very distinct and you have to literally put the snake up to your ear in order to hear it.

I dont want to RUSH to the vet for the simple reason im a little short on money and im not sure if it's even anything to worry about.

So im gonna keep an eye on him i raised the temps.

    = ) thanks bud.

Well to be honest any click or pop noises are not a normal sound when it comes to ball pythons.Has he been in lower then normal temps at anytime recently? Its really hard to give a honest answer over the internet,so you have to "play it by ear"(no pun intended lol) and decide what to do.Keep us posted

    Re: When people say.....

    Hi,

It's never a bad idea to get a health check done on new animals anyway so the vet visit won't be wasted no matter what.

I can't remember if anyone has mentioned this in any of the threads but do you know when he last shed? Have a look in his nostrils as sometimes little peices of shed skin can be left in there and cause wierd sounds - unlikely I know but always worth checking.

If you do manage to get any poop out the lil fella stick it in a ziplock bag to take to the vets (keep it in the fridge not the freezer -and make sure its sealed and you wash the outside of the bag to avoid smells / ill family members. also put it in a CAREFULLY LABLED tupperware box if you can as it stops mothers freaking out quite so much). I realise he may not poop just an fyi as the vet can check it for parasites. He might be able to check from a smear if he doesn't poop I can't remember - I'm sure someone on the boards said it was possible.

He will definately be able to check for an RI and possibly do a culture to determine the most effective treatment (can save money in the long run as you should only need to pay for one course of treatment).

And if after all that he pronounces him perfectly healthy he has now got a baseline to work from in the future and you can stop worrying about a lot of things.

Very true, it's always good to have a great vet to fall back on if needed anyway.

Allison linked me to that huge website of great vets through out the country i found one relatively close and am bringing my bp thursday wish me luck.

No reason to bash you here.At least you are honest and realize you need it,not like some when someone tries to help them out.

    Re: When people say.....

Best of luck at the vet's visit. A good herp vet is your new best friend LOL. Do remember to have a secure container to transport your little scaley buddy in to the vet's office. Snakes loose in cars are not a good thing. You may want to also have a couple of those instant shake heat pads tucked in with the snake if your area of the world is a bit cold this time of year. This is what we use to transport our snakes in. I just take a couple of those heater things, shake them to activate, tuck them in an old sport sock and tuck that under a layer of paper towels for the vet trips in cooler weather. Works like a dream. Warm happy snake secure in it's little container...my vet is thrilled LOL. You can find these anywhere in tons of sizes from about $2 to $6 dollars (don't forget to melt/drill in some vent holes).

For monitoring temps/humidity you just can't beat the Acu-Rite from WalMart. It's not perfect but for about $12.00 plus 1 AAA battery it's a darn fine thing and in use by many members here. Keeping temps/humidity in the proper ranges will over time make for a healthier snake and healthy snakes don't run up big vet bills so consider anything to do with keeping a tight control on the snake's environment as a smart investment.
