depends why they recomended it.

If it was because they don't think the heatmats will be able to reach and maintain the temperatures required in your set up and climate then I'd say that it's probably a good idea as long as its gaurded and thermostaticaly controled etc and you can compensate for the loss of humidity.

I use a couple myself for that very reason.

If it's because they have hundreds in the stockroom and the manager wants the space then possibly a knee to the happy sacks is in order. But ask for a discount first.

It all comes down to what your set up is going to be and what conditions it will have to cope with. No sense everyone pointing out ball pythons prefer belly heat (and they do from all I can read) if the only belly heat you can find can't get the warm end hotter than 85F.

Basically we need more information to know for certain and it also comes down to the trust level you have in the shop. So go on slap up some pics of the tank and the temps you have at the mo.
