    She'll be arriving Tuesday.

I figured I'd take a gamble. Hope it is worth it.

I have seen so many ads for them but it makes me leary with all the stress that they'll do just what Joe's did.

I've seen some of those ads myself. They are asking quite a bit for some of them.

The price was right for this one. Paying the amount for what a decent female goes for and getting her gravid at the same time.

    Re: Who has experience with

I think the main problem you will run into is that she will be quite thin after laying, and may not acclimate and eat for a very long time. I've done the WC adult female thing, and I'll never deal with them again, it's just not worth it. Best of luck with yours though.

    Re: Who has experience with

I to was wondering same thing about all these WC "gravid" females. Some of the prices are enticing, but with the WC "gravid's" I would think the risks are greater. Not only are dealing with an import an know nothing about its history and health...but if you pay extra in the hopes breeding quick who knows what the stress of being removed from the wild and shipped all over would do. This is just my thought but you can find CH females for same price if you look...maybe more depending. It seems like you would have a much better chance of breeding successfully sooner than later with CH...but I'm sure there are exceptions.

    Re: Who has experience with

The only experience I've had with them is when I worked at a pet store that got some (about 30) in one year. I have no idea why they did this... they must have had dreams that they would all lay 5+ perfect eggs, all the eggs would hatch, and then they would sell all those CH babies. Here's what happened instead: They housed each female in its own tall rubbermaid tub at herp room temperature (which had a pretty wide range of fluctuation) on cypress mulch. Most of the females laid. They put about 3 clutches in a Hovabator incubator. They just put some moss directly in there and then the eggs. No thermostat, no digital thermometer. Just the dial thermometer and hygrometer. They put a few more clutches in a mini fridge thing converted into an incubator. They left the rest of the eggs with the females that laid them. I think a total of 2 eggs hatched for them, and then they sold the females before acclimating them or establishing feeding habits.

Right now I have a WC female that isn't breeding size. I've had her for about 2 months and she hasn't eaten for me yet. I am planning on getting her treated for internal parisites then try to get her eating again. Who knows when she will. With a lot of them, I hear it takes just as long to get one to acclimate as it takes to just get a captive bred juvie and raise it to adulthood.

From experience I can guarantee you that it's just not worth it ... sometimes you get lucky, but the vast majority of the time it's a waste of time and money.

    Re: Who has experience with

i don't have first hand experience with wc girls. but someone i know has and they bought a couple this season. one died in less 2 weeks! some have done well for him, some did not. it's kind of like roulette, the question is

"do you feel lucky?" too much of a gamble for me, i'd rather just go to vegas.
