I know that they have been bred successfully without any brumation period, but sometimes male colubrids will shoot blanks without a proper cool down (65-70 for a month for VBB is pretty standard) If he is that interested in her though, you're probably OK. If you're not comfortable palpating her, just keep an eye on them (as if you're not already ) and watch for her to ovulate (large midbody swelling for a day or so). The male will show very little interest in her after ovulation also. Good luck, I hope all goes well with them in the coming months!
