I believe what Vaughn is really trying to say here is, make sure that the enclosure is dry.

It is a very important step of the treatment.

As a matter of course, any time I bring in a new animal, I treat their enclosure, as well as those of my established colony. I do quarantine in a separate room, but I don't want to take even the slightest chance that there could be egg transfer on my clothes, as careful as I may be. Provent-A-Mite cleared up the mites I had from a rescue, quarantined and not spread to the rest of my colony, but I still treated all their enclosures as well.

I've not seen any mites since that one time.
