There is only one safe product on the market that is truly efficient to prevent or eradicate mites, and the name is Provent-A-Mite (PAM) .
PAM is a spray that treats the enclosure, all you need to do is to remove your snake from his enclosure as well as the water dish, spray the enclosure and wait 25 to 30 minutes before placing back the water dish and your snake.
Nothing else works like it, it is the only patented treatment that has undergone more than 12 years of research and that can effectively eradicate mites and lice.
I would not recommend the use a homemade brew, as the main ingredients are often products that have not been tested for use with reptiles and that could cause nervous disorders and/or death.
I had mites only once from a BP that came from a pet store I treated his enclosure never had a problem again.
Here is where you can purchase Provent-A-Mite Entirelypets.com you can also find PAM in some specialty pet stores.

Or you can go straight to the source at http://www.pro-products.com/miteandtemp.html
In either case, that's the stuff you want. Too many others have tried inexpensive stuff at the local pet shop, only to end up having to get the Provent a Mite to fix the problem.

Re: Mites!
Yep, the P.A.M is definitely the way to go. I just got rid of my mite problem with it. One quick treatment, and all mites went buh-bye.
I'll never be without it again, as long as I have snakes in my care.
I heart Provent-A-Mite!

PAM is the way to go. Whatever you do, don't use the homemade stuff- even if it is from someone you trust. I did that and lost one and almost lost a second baby.

Keep an eye out...mites don't typically go away after one quick treatment, since their reproductive cycle is approximately 30 days, +/-. Stay on top of it to catch any new ones that may hatch in the mean time.

Re: Mites!
Yeah, I like to do multiple treatments. I believe the can says you can re-treat 30 days after (I would check; I am not near my can now.)
Provent-A-Mite 100%, all the way.
