    Learned to pop and....

While at Seans picking up my first morphs I ask if he could show me the age old Zen method of poping . Sean showed me and I got to pratice on some of his stuff. Got pretty good at it I think. So if figured I would try my hand on my unproven (nonsexed) snake my first BP to ever own. I have poped snakes of his size and seen the hemi's real clear. I have poped females and seen the scent glands. I can tell the differance. Got him at the pet store and was told they are all male. Ok no problem. So I pop Orphous.... what did I do wrong? no hemi's. Ok try again oh there..no...scent glands no hemi's. Ok this time little more roll and pressure.   WTF!!!! a Girl ?!? Now I got to get "it" probed just to see for sure if what I am getting is the same as the vet.

Might have to change my signature from 1.5 normal to 0.6 normals.. LOL

Well, another female would be cool!!!!

When we were at Graziani's, he showed us female that he has had for 9 years, and that has been locked up and never produced. This female has been popped and probed, and just recently they checked again, and this poor GUY has VERY small hemipenes. He used that as an example that anyone can run the chance of mis-sexing BP's.

See that shows how it is really hard to get the correct sex sometimes .Kinda makes you wonder if that "male" is kinda shakey

Awww geesh Neil now the poor snake has to live with the knowledge that you've told the whole world he's...well.....under-endowed! Poor thing! Bad enough he's been put in with males his whole life and probably wondered what was up with that but now everyone knows his equipment is a bit on the tiny side. Ya think another guy would have some sympathy! LOL

    Re: Learned to pop and....

My vet showed me how to do it, but I am scared to death that I am going to hurt one of my snakes so I leave it to her. I am just not confident enough yet.

I only saw her pop my male so I know what the hemi's look like, what do the scent glands look like? Are the very similar looking and just smaller or are they totally different? I have just never seen a female be popped so I have no idea what the difference is.

    Re: Learned to pop and....

It can be real confusing. I have seen scent glands that look as big as hemi's and seen hemi's that look like scent glands. Scent gland on average tend to be toward the outside edges of the vent (when popped) and flesh colored little knobs. Some are huge some are small. Real important to know what you looking at. I don't have experiance to tell 100% of the time so if I have any questions I get the vet to check by probing and if they get the same as me popping then cool and if not then I pop it there infornt of the vet to see if I get a different result.
