temp guns
what do you guys use these for? do you use them instead of a digital thermometer that you leave in the enclosure or do you use it along with that. i already have a digital thermometer that i leave in the enclosure for readings but was just wondering if there was any advantages of using a temp gun aswell, what do you think of this one: http://cgi.ebay.ie/Handheld-Infra-Re...QQcmdZViewItem
thanks for the help!

Re: temp guns
Temp guns are OK, one thing I like about a digital thermometer inside the enclosure is that I can check quickly to see whats going on at a simple glance, whereas with a temp gun, I'd have to turn on the device, open the tub, and take readings then.
For that cost of one good temp gun, I could get a bunch of digital thermometers to stick all over the place and monitor temps that way.

Re: temp guns
i have a 265.00 temp gun sitting on a rack collecting dust!
i use and rely on the 10.00 accurites, they work just as well for our reptile needs.

I use a PE-1 from Pro Exotics and I love it. Its nor very acurate if you are using aspen with an uth but with just paper towels or newspaper, they work great. I wouldn't be without one myself!

Re: temp guns
the digital thermometer is fine, there is no need for a temp gun. they are a pure luxury item. most temp guns have a 2-3 degree +/- same accuracy as digital thermometers. it comes down to personal preference...

I agree, A luxury indeed. Buying a tempgun from proexotics is probably your best bet if you were going to get one at all. They cost as much as 2 of the digital therms and can be used for mulitiple cages.
