Re: purity of hog island - DUW

This has inspired me to ask opinions about my own Hog. I didn't pay Hog price for it and the source I got it from probably doesn't have a lot of pure Hog knowledge, so I wouldn't be surprised either way:

Here she is, also in shed...

If recent out of shed pics would be better, I'd be happy to post some as soon as she's out.

Re: is mine a pure hog? DUW

I would say no. There looks to be too much black in the tail. Looks like it was a hogg(natural hypo which is co-dom) bred to a normal of some locality which would make some hypo hogg X and some normal hogg X. Thats just my theory about it. Either way, looks like a great little guy/girl!
I hope I got that right
    Hope this helps a bit

She is a cool snake... pretty hippy and strikey when I got her, but has calmed down a lot. I blame the kitten for terrorizing her while she was acclimating...

Anyway, I think her saddles are pretty dark as well as the black on her tail, and I don't think she is quite as orange as a pure Hog would be. She is still a very pretty snake and I love her orange eyes, but if popular opinion says she's a cross, I will probably be selling her as such some time.

Re: is mine a pure hog? DUW

I don't see a reason why she isn't a pure hogg. What did you buy her as? and from where? whom? How old? It's hard to say because of the new Sunset craze going on. Jake might be right on the button. If someone wants sunset boas they need to breed a salmon colombian to a hogg and they get sunsets, which are a cross salmon colombian x hogg. The problem is that you get cross normal colombian x hoggs that don't sell. Some will sell them to local pet shops as whatever they look more like (hogg or colombian) and hence this new recent dilemma. I doubt it's not pure, it's too close of a resemblance for me to say exactly what it is or not, but I'd contact who you got it from and start doing some research to where it came from and who bred it. Good luck!

But NO boa is 100% pure anything. At some time, there is always a cross thrown in somewhere. Even in nature it happens.

Hard to say although not likely that it is pure. A little too much darkness in the saddles. Here are a couple pics of Rob to compare. Beautiful regardless!

Jamie yours is rockin'... Mine just seems to have less color and more black around the tail saddles. Cool red eyes though.
