    BP First Aid

So I just got home tonight and noticed that my snake has a 'cut' on its head. It seems that a scale, between the nostrils, is pushed up. I'm going to keep a very close eye on her but would like to know anything that I could do. Someone suggested using hydrogen peroxide on a Q-tip and carefully cleaning the wound.
    Help? Thanks

Here are some picts I took:

She is very pretty - it's sort of hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks to me like she may have some dried/retained shed on her nose and she's been trying to rub it off and may have rubbed against something that caused the injury.

I would just treat it with a dab of neosporin (the kind without pain reliever in it).

    Re: BP First Aid

I'll see if i cant get another pic,

She shed more than a week ago and I JUST noticed the injury yesterday. I have this custom built top for my tank that is wire mesh. Shes able to just fit her nose upto almost her eyes through the holes and tries to push the cage up. Thats how i think she hurt herself. I'm going to the hardware store asap to get some fine mesh screen that im going to layer under that so it doesn't happen anymore.

i finally understand how hard it is to take a pic of a snake

I would not recommend hydrogen peroxide on an animal open wound instead you should use Betadine to clean up the wound and then apply a regular antibiotic ointment such as neosporin (NOT THE ONE WITH PAIN KILLER)

    Hope this help

I'm not familiar with Betadine.. is it similar to Bactine? (I'm in USA so names sometimes change) I put some neosporin on with a q-tip in the mean time. (she just had an exellent feed today also) =-)

No. Bactine is has a pain killer in it and is clear. Whereas Betadine is usually a very dark brown (I think). It's definitely called Betadine in the US.

Betadine is that orange looking antiseptic that doctors rub on your skin when they prep you for surgery. You should be able to find it in a pharmacy.

Okay, yes. I've had that used on myself before.
    ty

-p.s. as to applying it.. i'd use a q-tip to put it on .. should it be rinsed off imediatlly afterwards?
