what is needed to make one....i want one sooooo bad along with an albino...would a normal female and HET male make one....my female will be ready to breed this comeing season, but i need to find otu which male i need. the female is supposedly HET for somethign but the guy i resuced her from lost her card and couldn't remember what will this ruin my chaces of producing a pied? they're prob slim anyways arnt they?

You'll need at least one het and a lot of time (breeding to a normal, creating 50% hets, growing them up and breeding them back to the het). Or you could get a pair of 100% hets and within a couple years hopefully you can make a pied!

A het pied x normal = 50% possible het pied babies.
In other words, half the hatchlings will carry the pied gene. THey will all look normal. Keeping all the babies and breeding them back to the het pied, you may get a pied out of one or more of them, but that's after raiseing them up to breeding size.
And that's IF your python IS a het pied.

the cheapest and easiest way is to buy a male and female 100% het pied pair. grow them up and breed them.

with what you'll spend in food raising up all those possible hets... it would cost you more to use your normal female than buying a new 100% het

Buy a male that is 100% het for Piebald.
Buy a normal female ball python.

Raise them both and breed them.

Half the hatchlings will be 100% het for Piebald, but since you can't tell which is het and which is normal, all of them will be concidered 50% het until they are raised and bred. Sell all of the males as 50% het Pied and keep all of the females. Breed your 100% het Piebald to the females when they are large enough and odds are you will get a Piedbald. If you don't, keep all of the females to breed again in the future.

Raise and breed them together. If you don't get a Piebald, try again the following season.

The key is, when you buy a Het is to buy from someone trusted. Too many people buy false hets and don't realize they were rooked for several years. I'd personally by directly from a trusted breeder.

Note that the estimated costs, do not reflect enclosures, food or required items for proper husbandry.

okay so let's say... it takes 3 years to feed and raise that female to breedable size:

1 mouse per week - $1.00 per mouse - $52.00 per year times 3 years = $156.00

you'll need to feed both snakes so: $312.00

add in the cost of the 100% het male approx. $200.00 = total is: $512.00

now, we need to add in another three years of raising up the new females (let's say you have 2) - that would add another $468.00 for feed for these two little females and continueing to feed your 100% het male...

new total - $980.00

IF either of these females turn out to be het... then you are ready to breed some (hopefully) pieds.

so after 6 years and spending a minimum of $980.00 you are hopefully getting some pieds. now onto the other option listed below.

of course, i missed that your female is ready to breed... so how long for a male to be ready? 2 years? if so, remove one year of feeding off the first option.

wow thanks....i now understand the breed morph process...to a point. i think option 2 is best route cause i could always breed male to both females.

i would definatley say get a het. pair. And from a breeder that you know,because you don't want to be stuck with snakes that are not actually 100%. I wanted more pieds out of the first clutch, so i went ahead and got a pied, and a het pied. More expensive route, but more pieds in the end
