I have had boas in the past, but not the brazilian rainbow boas. is there anything unique or different about them that a person looking to buy should be aware of? Saw a 4 yr old female and was quite impressed.

The only thing I can think of is their need for high humidity(Screen top tanks SUCK for them) and they are known to be nippyas babies and usually calm down.

7 of my 9 snakes are in tubs, so humidity shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Basicly trying to get as much info on all snakes I really like before adding anymore to the group. I'm leaning toward the brazilian but will not consider buying from the shop. I'm sure there are breeders out there.

Yes.. you need to have temps and humidity spot on. They easily overheat. I've seen several baby BRBs die at the hands of incompetent pet stores.

yes, you have to be very careful about the temps and humidity. temps around 90 degrees are fatal to them. i keep mine around 80 degrees and i have a plexiglass lid.
they are really cool snakes. mine is a juvenile but he really isnt nippy. he only gets grumpy when he's getting ready to shed. i leave him alone during that time. when i was looking for mine, i came across a few breeders online...just search on www.kingsnake.com there are a bunch listed there. i happened to find mine from a local snake breeder.

....then get one Don't let people scare you.....they are not hard to keep. Especially since you have experience with snakes already, it should be nothing to worry about

I keep mine with a 88 deg basking spot and 78-79 deg ambient temp.....and they have been doing great so far.

The most important thing with rainbow boas is to provide conditions that allow for proper shedding. An shed gone wrong can spell disaster for a BRB, but that is easily taken care of by keeping humidity up or just being aware enough to throw in a humid hide at shed time. No biggie

Btw, if you ever go up to the All Animal Expo, there's been a breeder/hobbyist selling a bunch of his captive bred babies.

I'm not scared off of the BRB's, I plan on breeding BP's and I don't need to spend extra money on just any snake that catches my fancy right now. I'm wanting to get a male spider soon. I just saw a lrge. brb and really was interested in finding out more. Still thinking of getting one, but so busy right now. Hoping to get a new show puppy in 3 months so my hands will be full for a while. I really appreciate all the input from everyone positive or negative. Better to be informed than sorry.
