A Simple Joy

We discussed at some length recently in another thread, the meaning of Christmas and presents, being a parent and all that sort of thing. Today for a shining moment I saw the true meaning of this season in my 5 year old son's eyes and his huge smile. No presents, no religious differences, nothing more simple or more beautiful than a child's joy at a new light display on our mantle. Simple joy that reaches out to touch a parent's heart...that something we do that's not really so very much...brings such pleasure to a little person.

Sometimes seeing the world through one of my children's eyes is the best of blessings, no matter what season it is.

How sweet. It is awesome that, in this world of Internet, high-speed TV commercials, video games, instant macaroni and cheese, and other things, a simple thing can captivate a kid so much. Yay for simple things! Kids sometimes know how to notice them and take the time to see them, unlike adults who are always off hurrying to or from something.

That's so sweet Jo. It's times like that, that fill our hearts right up to the top. My son wrote his first letter to Santa this year. I found it in his bookbag, and it was the sweetest thing. I will keep that letter forever, although I'm supposed to send it onto Santa. (we'll have to send an email )

Don't we all Adam. It's one of those heart melting, awwwwwwwwwww moments that just get so rare as they grow up.

Thanks for bringing back the memories.

My kids are 12 and 16. They do suprise me with a tender moment once in a while. I'm now waiting for grandkids.

Of course at this time of year "a simple joy" is a thin slice of fruit cake and a glass of egg nog.

Our kids are 19, 15, 12 and 5 so I've a few years yet hopefully before I'm a grandma. Can't wait though really. I do love babies (especially ones you can send back home when you need some peace and quiet LOL).

I often think that I want another one of my own, but at 47 and my wife at 46, I am not sure that it is a good idea.

When my kids are out of the house, I am thinking of getting a NY teaching certificate. I think that will be the best way that I can help the next generation.
