Heating
Ok so my girlfriend always complains that its too cold for her in the house, but i have a wall mount heater and cant control the temp. of the heater. It has one setting and it get pretty warm in the room where my BP is kept.
My question is if i leave the heater on all night will my BP be ok? I always get worried that she will get too hot or something, Is there anyway that i can keep her tank somewhat cool, I was thinking that maybe i could turn off her infared heat lamp then just leave the heater on and that should keep her warm. Or should i leave the heat lamp on and just make my gf suffer haha

Re: Heating
In order to remain healthy and thrive, ball pythons have very specific temperature requirements ... they need a temperature range that goes from 82-84 degrees on one side of their enclosure to 92-94 degrees on the other ... they use the different temperatures to regulate physiological functions in different ways (digestion, immune systems, respiration, etc) ... If you want your ball python to be healthy, you cannot "guess" at these temps ... The best way to make sure you have to correct temps is to measure them often with a $9.00 digital thermometer available at any store that sells household products (Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc are some examples) ... Once you have an handle on exactly what the temps in the enclosure are, you can then use a combination of direct and indirect heating elements to get them where they need to be for your animals welfare. One of the easiest and "hands free" way of providing the proper temps for your animal is with a thermostat ... but even without one, it is quite simple to get the temps where they need to be with a little research and effort.
Hope this helps.

It depends what you call too hot?
What is the ambient temp in the room where you keep your BP.
Your BP should have a gradient temp of 90 to 94 on the warm side and 80 to 84 on the cool side so as long has you have both those temperatures in your enclosure your BP will be fine with the heater on and so will your girlfriend lol.

Re: Heating
I have thermometers in the tank already, Thats not my problem. She is at the right temp. My problem is heating my apartment to keep myself and my gf warm. I have a stupid wall heater that doesn't let you set the temp. It just has one simple setting. So i was just curious as to if i should leave the heater on all night and turn her light off at night or if i should just leave the light on and freze my own butt off at night. I just dont like the fact that i cant control the temp of my apartment to make it equally comfortable for the snake and myself ya know?

Re: Heating
See i know the tank temps are good, but if i leave the heater on all night wont the tempatures rise in her tank as well? Like i said i cant control how hot it get inside my apartment. So if i wanted to keep it warm i would have to sit next to the heater and turn it off when it gets to hot and turn it on when it get to cold all night just to make my gf happy... and i dont think i want to do that haha

If you get too cold you have the option of using blankets or putting on extra clothing to get warm ... your snake does not. If you get too cold you'll just be uncomfortable ... your snake could get sick and die.
If you're asking what you "should do", in my opinion I thought I summed it up pretty clearly in my original post ... but I'll try again a little more directly ... you "should" do whatever you have to do in order to provide the creature in your care with the temperatures it needs to survive ... 82-84 on one side, 92-94 on the other ... whether that means heater on, heater off, buying an extra oil-filled heater for the room, getting a 55 gallon drum and going hobo ... doesn't matter .... you have an animal with specific temperature needs that MUST be met.
With pet ownership comes great responsiblility.
Hope this helps.

Tell her to give me a call, I'll explain the importance of suffering in order to keep the balls (pythons) happy ... I'm great with girlfriends!
