How-To: Rolling in Snow
I caught these shots of Emma a few days ago.. I made a photo collage illustrating the proper way to roll in new snow!
And here's me and Cuesta, so she doesn't feel left ont.
Emma shuns her hay, prefering the tiny shreds of grass that are trying to survive winter..

lol! The cold doesn't bother them; we bring them in during the night and leave them in if the wind is bad; but they both just love rolling in snow.. and mud.. which is more of what they'll do today, b/c it is 45 degrees out and all the snow is melting.. hooray for hardened mud on a white horse!

lol; it must be worse there, since at least here, we get a little bit of drizzling rain or melting snow that makes it a little easier to groom off.. I love Emma and would never sell her, but after her I am not going white-horse anymore! Cuesta just wears her dirt so well, being chestnut..
Thanks Aleesha! It was a pain, getting everything to line up and be the right sizes..

Re: How-To: Rolling in Snow
I know that she is a dirtball, but I seriously believe that horses need to be horses; some people would have kittens, seeing a horse that is so "dirty." But I groom them nightly when they come in, and I am just not a neat-horse fanatic like some people are.

Yes, but she's *your* dirtball. =)
Bravo for eschewing the need to keep your horses perfectly manicured. If horse manicurists saw the complete satisfaction and pleasure a horse gets by a good roll in the snow or mud, they wouldn't be so hasty to brush out that oh so scritchy goodness. =)
