Hiking/Backpacking/Camping

Does anyone do any hiking/backpacking/camping on here? Ive been getting into backpacking alot lately and plan on doing alot of it after christmas (hopefully will not freeze in the process).

We're campers! Only get away with it once or twice a year....

My dad, some buddys, and me always go hunting. Hunting requires us to camp and hike. We are thinking about doing some backpacking in the process of the hunting also. I think it would be alot of fun.

I try to go backpacking in the Sierras at least once a year. My favorite area is between Yosemite and Sequoia/Kings Canyon, although I'm probably going to brave the crowds in Yosemite this Spring. I'm planning on taking my oldest up Half Dome. He's a little afraid of heights, but I think he'll do okay on the cable up if I stay behind him.

The closest I come is camping at medieval events. I have plans for a yurt though. that would be the cadillac of camping tents.

I camp all the time (tent). I've camped my way across the US once when I moved to California to teach Outdoor Ed. That was amazing, except for the bear encounters we had in So. Cal. Pretty scary for a midwestern girl, but exciting too.


I think I was born with hiking boots on too. It's in my blood. If I have a choice, I'd rather be outside any day (or night).

Never done winter camping yet but, I'd love to try it.

I love nature; however, we live in the country, and our backyard is the setting that most people would camp in.. so we just enjoy it and then go home to bed. We were talking about camping out, but it never actually happens; we like our cozy bed too much! We do spend a night or two in Alleghany State Park every year when my family rents a cabin there, but communal showers and city folk ain't my thing; it's home sweet home for me.
Now hiking; in all sorts of weather, it is something I love spending hours doing; alone or with someone. I LOVE discovering new things in the woods that I hadn't noticed before; last year I found Mark this awesome, vintage toy Jeep back in the woods, and also a bunch of antlers/skulls; he never knows what I will bring home next!

I love snow camping! It's almost better than regular, good-weather camping. It's much cleaner, there are no bugs, no people, no bears, and firewood is easy to get because you're closer to the dead/low branches on the trees. Of course I've only done California winter camping where it only gets down to 20F or so. Much warmer than some of the negative temps in many other parts of the country. The only problem is that you spend a LOT of time eating and melting snow for water or cooking. Still, it's a lot of fun...

Yeah I love winter hiking, the only thing I dont like about it is the single digit temps, especally around here, temps in the past few days in the mountains (higher points) have been in the negatives.

A yurt is pretty cool, but I have no idea how bulky it is.

I go camping every summer at a pagan festival and spend the week living in a tent. I love it. Cell phones do not work in that area, so it's like being completely unplugged from the world.

I don't really get the chance to go out and do any other camping but I would enjoy it. I don't really get out and hike either, but I'd love to give it a try.

The closest I get to hiking is wandering around either invert hunting (I was in Texas this summer, and we went scorpion hunting or doing some herping.
