Rescues
Well, I was in Austin this weekend(Saturday night and Sunday), and was scheduled to pick up 3 snakes from 2 different people who had posted them on Craigslist(I know... Evil place of doom). One person had a 5ft Ball Python who was around 4-5 years old. The other people had a Ball and a common boa(kept together...of course..), both 3 years old, and both supposedly around 3ft long(woo..).
Well, I went to the expo with a friend around 11a to check it out and see if Chris(Cue) was there, which he was of course. Bugging everyone like he always does So he agreed to help me sex these snakes with the help of either his friend Mike or Tony(Tony Hurt-Snake Evolutions).
So my friend Shawnna and I drove around in the boonies of south Austin trying to find these persons' houses. The first guy was pretty nice and was a true Austineer(very eccentric, haha). He just told me he didn't have much time for the snake anymore and wanted a better home for it. So I get handed a huge, 5ft Ball that weighs around 4-5lbs. We put it in a pillowcase, thank the previous owner, and try to find our way to the next location.
Next owner was a boyfriend/girlfriend deal and the mother just wanted the snakes OUT. Both snakes(Ball and Boa) are supposedly 3 years old. The Ball, who is a gorgeous blackback/brownback with tons of blushing and a little bit of granite, was only around 2.5ft and maybe 600g. Good weight though. The Boa is probably the same length, but weighs around 250-300g(Not sure, but will weigh later after he sheds). They were extremely cold when I picked them up, and were being kept together in a tank the size of a 29gallon tall, no waterbowl and one hide. So they get put in pillowcases and we're off back to the show.
When we get to the show, I take my Omaha Steaks cooler(with snakes inside, heh), inside and go find Chris. He leads me over to Tony Hurt's table, where Tony proceeds to sex the 5ft Ball first. Low and behold...
It's a female... A 2500g+ female, who is huge and has around 15 pea sized folicles
The boa and Ball(the ones kept together) both ended up being male.
I then got sold on a gorgeous, absolutely breathtaking Lemon Pastel Ball male(pictures to come!). Thank you Tony! Another month or so and he'll be ready to meet some girls!
So that was my day... Very interesting jaunting around Austin!
I'll have pictures up of everyone after they settle in and eat.

Re: Rescues
Becky, I've bought 3 lemon pastels from Tony Hurt with Snake Evolutions. He is such a nice guy and his snakes, as they mature, do not not brown out like I've seen others do.
Congrats on the rescues! That female could be producing this season! Wow!
Good luck

Re: Rescues
Congrats Becky! What a great day you had. Can't wait to see pics and hear the names of your new snakes. Will the male boa be Sonja's future hubby or are you going to rehab it and find it another home?

Re: Rescues
Yep, Jo, that male boa is just too cute for words. I plan on keeping him and the other male Ball that he was housed with. They all seem to be settling in great, just lounging around in their tubs(some not even using hides and just lazed about on the newspaper), not stress-cruising, nadda. I even took out the boa earlier today to check on him and he's more hydrated, and wasn't as jumpy. After he sheds, I'll offer him a meal and a few days after, see how he feels about a photo shoot.
I only have pics of the pastel as of now. he is just so adorably cute. Even has little curly Q's on his head where the blushing is. He is as yellow as yellow can get(no... no high-lighter involved) and I just love him. He'll make some awesome babies either this season or next(or both).
Pictures of the yellow-ness:

Enjoy! *Oh... and click on the pictures. They DO get bigger. hehe*
