Meet Karma
My temps even out just about right so I went to my fav local exotics store and picked up this little beauty I named karma! I had a brain fart and I completely forgot to ask it's age. What do you think? Does it look like a good weight? I thought it looked possibly a little thin.

Re: Meet Karma
Looks slightly triangular, but that might just be the pics. As far as I can see, it looks pretty healthy. I highly recomend collecting a stool sample as soon as you can get one and bag it and tag it with your name, phone number and snake's name. Take the sample and your snake to a vet that deals with snakes, reptiles at a minimum, and have the fecal tested for parasites.
Establish a good feeding pattern and stick with it. And, as I have found out, if you have any questions or concerns, everyone on here seems to be very knowledgeable and eager to lend advice.

Re: Meet Karma
Thanks.
Also I read on here that you shouldn't handle them until after they eat for you. It that concrete or only ideal. I was told Karma ate a couple days ago on the 7th, so he won't need another meal for awhile and then I'd have to wait a couple days after he eats. It's so hard waiting.

Concrete, do not handle him until he eats for you. I personally wouldn't handle him until he has eaten for me more than once.

Darn. ok. Here is a stupid question. Why do we wait until after they eat? Is it just to cut down on strees or to make sure they don't become problem eaters or somthing else?

It is to reduce stress, and allow the animal to acclimate to it's surroundings. Establishing a good feeding routine is crucial. I went without handling a snake for 2 months until it was an established eater. A week or two is nothing.

Re: Meet Karma
I had to break the rules today, but not because I wanted to. The dang cats must have been able to unplug the surge protector that the thermostats and rheostats were plugged into while I was gone , meaning no heat. When I got home I found an unhappy Karma in a 70 degree F tank:eek: . The warmest thing I could think of was me so I pulled him out and let him wrap around my wrist until I got a warm water bottle ready and let him sit on that till the tank warmed up a little. Luckily since I have three different heating sources it only took about 5 minutes or so to get the whole tank to about 85*F and a set him back in. I feel so guilty for letting this happen. I can't imagine the stress it must have caused.
I'm going to have to buy some electirical tape and tape the surge protector to the outlet to make sure this doesn't happen again.
