Using rocks from backyard in tank

I would like to use a few rocks from my yard in my tank. I have heard people mention soaking and cooking things such a wood or rocks before putting them in cages. What is the actual process? Can someone direct me to a previous thread or link that discusses what to do to prepare a rock from the "wild" to be placed in a snake cage. Thanks for your help.

I know part of it is baking it for a few minutes. Also be sure to use a snake-safe sanitizer on it

I would put them in a pot of hot water and turn it on high and boil them for a while. Just my 2cents!

be very careful boiling rocks as they can explode on you!

if you boil them... let it boil gently for 2 or 3 minutes max... then turn off the stove and leave it to cool in the water.

    or

put it in the oven at 200 degrees for 15 minutes (again be careful they don't explode)...

either way... any and all bugs etc will be dead.

as recycling goddess said be carefule heating rocks . the safest way would be to boil them . just put them in a pot of cold water and bring to a boil . as soon as they get boiling cut it off and let it cool till you can handle bare handed . it only takes a few seconds at a boil to kill most anything .

Yeah I heard sanitizing them then baking works. Also heard you could sanitize then set them out in the sun for a day or so. Or something like that
