    Bedding Question

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about a good odor controling bedding. I'm currently using pines shavings that I bought at EBV, but I want to be able to sneak my corns into my parent's house if I have to and I have to be able to have no odor coming from them. I've heard that Carefresh is good, but I just wanted to get some opinions first.

Lol...i for one dont suggest that you sneak the snakes into the house, but if you do, just clean the tank regularly. I have 4 snakes, and use Aspen, and i've never had a smell coming from any of their tanks.

    good luck

Clean the cage. Snakes should not be giving off a smell. I can sit here all day typing next to 20 plus animals in this small rooom and not smell anything.

    Re: Bedding Question

Snake poo on the other hand.......

Some mornings I wake up on the bedroom and can smell one of me lil' darlins has left a present for me overnight in the tanks in the living room. Mind you it's a small flat and I seem to smell things more since I stopped smoking.

For the record I dont really think smuggling them in without your parents knowledge is a good idea either

I'd also be cautious about using odour control bedding as they may do it with chemicals ( I don't have a lot of experience with this) and since your snakes wont be able to walk away from it or raise its head like the cats etc it's designed for and I have no idea if it would irritate lungs or anything.

You could try gently introducing your folks to the cornsand keep emphasising how escape proof the tank is etc . Once their used to you having them and such they may settle down to the point you could openly take them into their house in an emergency. But you know your own folks best .

    Best of luck either way.

    Re: Bedding Question

I'd be a lot more concerned about sneaking in their weekly food. If you are an adult child returning home, just sit down like an adult and talk to your parents. That's a lot better than getting caught like a child being bad and then what are you going to do with the snakes at that point?

    Re: Bedding Question

I am an adult child returning home, and I have talked to my parents about bringing my snakes with me and they won't have any of it, no matter what I say. My mother says that the snakes smell, she doesn't want to have to deal with them, my dad HATES reptiles and my mother doesn't want to have to listen to him about the snakes as well as the cats, and she also just plain thinks I shouldn't any pets of any sort. She likes looking at my fish, but she doesn't like me spending any money at all. I'm of the opinion that it is my money and I can spend however I want as long as my bills are paid. The part about this that bugs me the most is that my mother actually really does like reptiles, and I've tried promising that I'll keep the cages clean, but she won't hear it. I don't want to sneak my snakes into the house, I have other plans to use before that option.

And the weekly food is not a problem, I feed them on my day off, and both of my parents are gone all day that day.

    Re: Bedding Question

If any on this forum is in the east bay area in CA, do you know anyone who would be willing to board my two corns for a while. EBV is too expensive, and I'm trying to work out a deal with Hoffman's, but I'm not sure the owner will be able to bring the price down to where I can afford. I'm not sure how long it would be for.

    Re: Bedding Question

Actually, I've talking to my boss and she will let me keep the snakes at work. So there is no need to worry about me sneaking my snakes into my parents house. I would still like to know what bedding absorbs smell the best without causing any negative effects to the snakes.
