Jeep CJs/Wranglers..?
I am thinking of buying this CJ for my first vehicle; mid 80's model, completely restored. How are these guys, guys/gals? I need something that can get through the worst snowy weather out there..please weigh-in on your opinions of them! I am 26 and tired of bumming rides to work; our driveway is like something off the Rubicon trail in terms of snow..

throw on some superlift springs and new shocks, aussie locker front and rear, call it a day and get the mail
No really though, they are good for later on if you ever decided to lift it and allow for bigger tires to help through the terrain, bc everyone knows you need at least 38" tires to get through snow. PM me if you need help

I don't know about the older jeeps, but I'm liking the new Wrangler unlimited's. The new 4 door jeeps are really starting to catch my eye.

What kind of snow are you driving thru???
So what are you talking about, a CJ7? They are good in snow, and such, but as with all Jeeps of that design, they have a short wheelbase and a high center of gravity, so you have to be careful in the turns. Any sharp turn over 25 mph can put you up on two wheels, so be careful flying around corners. They aren't the greatest on gas, either as I recall, around 15mpg I think. Alot of fun to drive, not a very smooth or comfortable ride, though. They didn't come with shift-on-the-fly 4WD in the 80's, so you will have to get out and lock the front hubs before shifting to 4WD. In 4 low, you wont get stuck in anything unless it is so deep that you are bottoming out the vehicle.
Rats in the hold. Crew is dead, I fear the plague.....

Re: Jeep CJs/Wranglers..?
Thanks; this one we are looking at, I am not sure if it was changed over to auto lockers or not. It looks to have been completely redone outwardly, not sure about under the hood; Think the tub is actually of a Wrangler.
It is automatic! This is what struck me, as they all seem standard when you're talking CJs.

Thank God you dont live in LA. I didnt start driving till I was 24 and my insurance when I first started was 325.00 a month. It's down to 250.00 and after the new year it should be about 175.00

If you have never driven it'll be high as is.

You know I never really noticed a "big drop" in auto insurance costs that everyone says you'll get when you hit 25 and I'm now on my way 27. My wife has perfectly clean record and I have a a speeding ticket or 3 but all seperated by many years. We have pretty good insurance though, only available to educational employees.
