I have never had a good time with PC's which weren't home-made. My father uses Dells and lemme tell you, after about 6 months, he's had problems with both of his PCs--nothing huge, but enough to be annoying. My brother's Compaq fried a year after he owned it.
I'm on my second "home-made" PC and building one cost very little, and for the power I have in my tower, I would have paid twice as much if I had bought one equivalent from Dell, Gateway or HP or whomever.
Home made is the way to go if you know someone who can do it for you (fortunately, I've got a boyfriend who knows how to do that stuff)
