Collection Progression

well, i was 14, and dating this guy name Ian. I went to his house one day, and he was showing me his Ball Python, a normal female, and i thought she was the coolest thing on earth. I kept saying, "oh how adorable!! i want one!!" well, he bought me one. He told me i could just put her in a tub with water. period. sooo, i was at the herp shop, and noticed all of the heaters, substrate, etc. etc. and i decided to do a little research. And i came across BP.net. Well, i realized that i was basically slowly killing my poor snake, and i fixed everything up for him. After i got all his temps and set up right, i decided to get another snake. I was looking for a bigger snake though, so i got a Colombian RTB... and then...i discovered morphs of BPs. And...i pretty much have been broke ever scince. haha. I have a pied, and a het pied on the way, and i'm looking into getting a mojave and a pastel.

I call that 'snake-poor' I've got that affliction as well.

Sounds like you're starting a very nice collection.. I'm getting a pair of het pieds, a mojave and a lemon pastel female.

cool! i think that mojave's are a lot prettier than pastels (i honestly dont like plain pastels), but, they can make a ton of cool things. and i don't want to spend the money on a super.

A bright lemon yellow and jet black pastel with jungley markings is hard to beat in my book.. but mojaves have always been one of my favorites. I'd like a lesser platty to go with mine.. gotta love blue eyed leucistics!

I always loved the sweet faces of ball pythons, and when we had a 20 gallon tank needing an occupant, I got to realize my dream of owning one. Did a lot of research, but as most of us, didn't learn as much as I possibly could and found this site.


Kashmire was my first and as I read as much as I could about ball pythons, I learned about the different color and pattern mutations, especially the pied and learned I could, with patience and time, breed one of my very own one day. The rest is history, and I just can't resist a pretty face!

I used to go out in the fields (grew up on 56 acres) and catch corn snakes and garter snakes and rat snakes.
The first snake I ever owned was a black and white banded kingsnake that I named Maurice. Maurice left me due to an inhonest 'friend' selling him while 'snakesitting'.
Truth be told I hated ball pythons at first, I thought they were picky fat snakes. Then I got to know a few.
After Maurice came my first ball that I got at an exotic animal swap and as they say 'ya can't have just one'.
I now have kings, bloods, boas (BRB and red tail) but mainly balls.
The first morph I was ever aware of was the pied and I fell in love. Though as I see more morphs the normals still have a wonderful place in my heart because they are so darn variable.
My parents were never thrilled with my collection, my father wouldn't even hold any though my mother (she'll deny it to her dying day I know) did grow rather fond of two of my large male 'lap snakes'. My husband prefers to hold them then maintain husbandry and he's not quite used to seeing 'BALL PYTHON' in the memo of the checkbook but he's learning.

Hrmm....

As a kid I loved snakes with a passion but could only get my mother to agree to a garter snake. After that it kinda fell by the way. Then a few months ago it resurfaced as I had the funds and the space.

So now I have three BP's, two normals and a pastel. With a couple more on the way, a spider and another normal/pastel or two. It really IS an addiction Even if I never ever breed them, I'll really enjoy them all as pets.
