    Housing Snakes Together Help

Okay, so i DO NOT house my snakes together, and i never will. But, i went to the herp. shop today, and my dad saw some of them housed together. I was there spending more money on UTH, and rock hides for the new snakes. He was insistant that it is okay to house them together, and told me that i should to save money (no i'm not going to...i don't get a new snake untill i have money for UTH, tank, hides, etc, etc).

He is a VERY impatient/ADD person (such a bad combination), if i talk about something i like for more than 3 sentences he is already tuning me out (it is so frustrating, i can't even explain). I cannot think of a way to talk to him and explain why i can't house them together in a short way because i get quite frustrated. Does anybody have any suggestions for me?

    Thank you so much.

That's a tough one Amy. However maybe pictures would work better then words? I do believe our dear Rab has some pictures of a ball that has eaten another ball that you could possibly print out to show him. It's an extreme example yes but it might get your point across.
I have a good friend with ADHD and sometimes talking to him drives ya nuts!

Sit your dad down at the computer and pull up this thread and have him read through it:

Great idea.. I noticed too that sometimes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
Also, you could inform him on the dangers of breeding them at too-young an age..

    Re: Housing Snakes Together Help

pictures will work great. Sitting him down and talking to him won't work. As soon as he starts getting un-interested or thinks of something else he needs to do (which is quite often) he starts to walk away. annoying, i know. I'll try to use some summarization skills for the listed reasons on why not to house them together, and put a picture inbetween every few lines to keep his attention. Hopefully that will work. With these things i usually have one shot, so i just wanted to check and see if anybody had any ideas first.

    Re: Housing Snakes Together Help

I'd just go with a few short to the point sentences....

    1) Dad, most pet stores suck!

    2) Dad, those snakes are only together a short time before they are sold.

    3) Dad, it's my money and my snakes....I know what's best to do with both.

    4) Dad, here's BPNet, if you want more information read here.

awesome!!! thanks a ton. I'll make sure i tell him that. I tell him about BP.net all the time, but he never listens. Oh well....He has been on Fauna. He loves looking at things for sale on snake sites, printing them out (and things he knows i wants), and just leaving them on the kitchen table for me to oogle over. And then when i ask for them, he tells me no.

Do you ask for them as in "dad will you buy this for me" or "dad can I buy this myself and here's my plan to house it, care for it and pay it's feed and vet bills". Always makes a difference to us parents.
