High school protest

Thought I would share a story thats going on at my school at this very second. Our systamatics (weight lifting) teacher was fired yesterday. He was also the varsity coach and probably the most like teacher on campus. This is my second year having him and I know he was my favorite teacher. Well yesterday, he anounced at practic that he was fired and was unable to come back. So the word spread quickly and this morning they started a protest. It quickly grew from a few football players to all of them then even his student. I decieded I would go to first hour then since I had his class next I joined. The staff pushed us from the parking lot to across the street. As soon as it reached lunsh period, it was pushing close to a hundred students at least. And at that point I decieded I would go home. So as I was leaving there were news agencys showing up. If any one thats here in Arizona, it will be on News Channel 3 on the 4:30 to 6:30 segment. Thought I would share since im not all that happy about this.

Why did they fire him?

Nobody knows. Hes not the guy that would do anything wrong. One rumor is that a parent called and complained about the way he tought. But then again this is high school and rumors get made up so quick that nobody knows whats true. When I first heard it I didnt believe it and then every one was talking about it.

That was my first question as well. Not to rain on your...protest but generally there is a reason behind it. If the student body doesn't know the real reason or its being kept quiet there is probably good reason and kinda makes protesting pointless. Working in public education myself I can tell you there are few ways staff, specifically a teachers can be fired at the drop of a hat. Including but not limited to misconduct involving student(s) and simple layoffs. Those are the only two I can really think of where someone would be let go immediately in the middle of a school year. There are unions and such that protect teachers so its not easy to just fire one. Keep that in mind while your participating in a cause you don't have the full story on.


Ok I'm stepping of my public education employee soapbox now. I hope things work out for the best.

Trust me, I completly understand that. I think alot are just not happy that there favorite teach/coach is gone. And of course, you have the students that are going just to get out of school. But a majority are doing this because he was a great teacher.

So whats ging on now is that he didnt get 'fired' from teaching. They are refuseing to offer him his coaching job back.

then why did he tell his students he was fired?

something sounds fishy to me... keep us updated as you get more accurate info

The only thing I can THINK of is he told them he was fired so they would try to do somthing. But then again, I dont think he would do that.
