Help Very Cold Bp

how can i get a babys temp back up she got out of her cage and got in my dirt basement and te temps are below freezing she is very cold and barley moving please help

you want to warm her up slowly, like place her un her tank under the heat lamp or near it. YOu can shock the body if you warm her up too fast. then you need to get her to a vet ASAP as in sometime tomorrow. you can warm her in your hands then under the heat lamp or on the warm side of the cage.

All I can do is guess, based on what seems like common sense to me...but I don't have any experience with this sort of thing.


I would imagine that a somewhat gradual warming would be better than suddenly thrusting the snake into a 90 degree box. Maybe put the snake into a secured pillow case and hold it against your body for awhile...then after its warmed up some from that...put it into its enclosure, making sure it has a good choice between "cool" and "warm." Even the "cool" end will probably feel quite warm and toasty to her.

Yes, exactly, warm it up as GRADUALLY as possible. I just remember reading about how someone found their BP in another very cold place (i forget where exactly). They placed it in lukewarm water, and it died almost instantly. So do it as gradually as possible!

i would try just holding/cupping her, and warm her up alittle, and wait till she's not so cold and place her in the enclosure

Thank you all for your help I did what you suggested and she seems a bit better. Her tounge seems to be moving at the right speed and she is now trying to crawl all over me. I have put her back in her enclosure for now but I will be keeping a very close eye on her thru the night. VET in the mornning! Thanks again for your help.

To the above posters: correct me if I'm wrong...but don't you think that warming the snake with your body would cause a more abrupt temp increase than putting her back in the enclosure?

Not if there is some cloth between you and the snake...which is one reason why I suggested a pillowcase. And our outside body temps aren't nearly so warm as the 98.6 we look for on a thermometer.

She has chosen her warm hide which is at 91.0 over her cool side which is 84.2 will this be ok or will she still warm up to fast?

How did she end up doing? What I did once, when we had a power outage and came home to cold snakes, was this: Mark and I put them in our shirts and sat on the couch, conserving warmth; luckily, we have a kerosene heater that we cranked up, and gradually it warmed the room, the snakes, and us. I hope your snake fared well.. sorry I wasn't able to post yeaterday.
