What morph to buy?
Hi,
I currently have 1 female bp (ready to breed in 2008) and am looking into getting some morphs. If you had $2000 to spend, which morph/s would you buy and why, in terms of a starting breeding project?

Spiders or mojaves and some more females. Don't assume that it will be ready in 2008, you never know how it will grow or when it will be sexually mature. I would get spiders just because they look cool and are a dominant morph and mojaves for the same reason except for being co-doms

Indeed, it was an estimate based on her current rate of growth, although i'm in no rush and aware she might not be ready/heavy enough. But yeah i was thinking of getting a female spider, male pastel and normal female. What does everyone else think?

For just $2k, I would get a male dom or co dom and some normals to start off. It will more than likely produce some visuals each year and can be bred much smaller and younger than a female. Plus, it can be bred to multiple normal females

You should do pastel and normal females and male spider, if you like that combo. I think a female pastel is best for breeding because so many of the great morph combos include pastel. I like pastel females for breeders. You could also get a cinny and do pewters with a pastel.

Re: What morph to buy?
Every gene type has its' pros and cons. Here is a short list of each
Recessive:
Pros-can be cheaper to make if you are willing to wait and deal with hets
Cons-Your odds of producing visuals are pretty slim if breeding het x het. The female hets tend to cost a good bit more than males. You also run the risk of receiving a snake that is not a true het, so make sure you buy from a reputable breeder, not a middle-man.
Co-dom and dom:
Pros-You can buy a male for lower than a female and breed to a normal female to make some visuals. Your odds doing this are 50% so still not a guarantee. You can breed visual x visual and hope for a super which can breed to normals and make all visuals.
Cons: Tend to be more expensive than recessive visuals with the exception of a few.

A Cinny, a spider an another normal female would be my recommendation.
