    The storm is now calming- some...

    I was not going to bring this to the public forum, but decided I would because some of you may have noticed my recent absence from the site..dont want you all to feel I have abandoned you...

    On the 24th of Oct, my son was once again, after 28 months, hit by a car. The first time we almost lost him, it was very very serious and he spent time in ICU.. luckily, he recovered and is still with us.

    You may ask, how in the world he got hit by a vehicle again..only 28 months apart from the first time... simple, my son has ADD and ODD... attention deficet disorder and oppositional defiance disorder.... unfortunately, when he gets one thing on his mind and goes off, he dont remember to look around and think before doing things... we never anticipated this happening again, it is like lightning hitting one person twice in a life time. This time he will be staying home and not leaving without an adult ever again, to avoid the 3rd lightning strike.

    The extent of his injuries are as follows:
    Broken Femur: his leg has been surgically repaired, and looks something like this:
    [hip joint]
    {screw}
    I
    I
    I (bone)
    I
    I
    [broken bone]
    (8.5mm rod) runs through whole femur;at this point, there is 1/4 inch of missing bone
    [broken bone]
    I
    I
    I (bone)
    I
    I
    {screw}
    I
    I
    (knee joint)

    He also has a broken jaw, in several places, one break has been surgically repaired, while the other not, because it is sooo close to the joint of the jaw itself... his jaw is wired closed, but scheduled for Dec7th removal of the wires.

    He will heal with some time, and he will be OK this time also... he is a very lucky kid at this point, someone is watching out for him. Mike is taking liquid diet..meaning anything I can blend into a liquid and he can suck through a straw. He uses a walker to get around b/c he is too impulsive to use crutches safely.... and he will not be going back to school for sometime, due to his surgeons worry for his safety in such an uncontroled environment. So, looks as if the district will pay for a tutor for him now.

    Just wanted to let you all know, I have not abandoned post, just taking care of my home, my son and my personal business (automotive and motorcycle repair) outside the home (somebody has to run it)...

    OMG Jeanna

    I don't have a kid, but that has to be one very scary nightmare to live though ONCE. TWICE, my god I know I'd be no good! You guys have someone or something watching over him very. You and Mike and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers for a fast recovery!

    Now I have that chocked up feeling in my throat after reading this.
    WOW... just wow he is one very lucky boy!

    Wow so sorry to hear that. I will keep him and you in my prayers.

    My son has ADD and he didn't get on meds until he was 16yo.
    I know what you mean about the one thing on the mind and tuning everything else out.
    His meds have really helped a lot, thankfully.

    Glad your back

    Michael must have one very tired out, stressed out guardian angel up there hon. I'm so glad he's home with you now. That running back and forth to the hospital was hard on you and Brian.

    Tell him from me that if he isn't a good kid, does what he's told to do and gets better soon I'm coming over there and blending him up an ever so lovely dinner of broccoli and LIVER! Seriously, tell him from me to co-operate, I know the amont of stress you are under right now hon dealing with all his care plus your normal busy life (and remember you call when you need to vent and bugger the "it's too late at night" crap, pick up the phone when it gets tough and we'll talk it out hon).

    I'm still chuckling over him in the hospital going on to you about that pretty nurse LOL and worrying about how much damage his face took. Injured so badly and typical teenage boy he's checking out the chicks and worried that his good looks are intact. I know he can be a handful but it's a blessing that he came through this accident in such good shape considering he was struck by an SUV travelling that fast.
