Re: Has this happened to you?

oooh how very painful. i used to work with people like that and every day was a struggle. at my current job it's not really a problem except at the moment. we are working with another company on a big project and their project manager is just...a little slow. i have to explain things to him 5 times and then he starts to get all huffy and snotty with me and i'm like, ok, i'm not trying to be degrading here, but i do need you to understand what i'm telling you so that this thing will work! agh!

this is how i handle this situation... stop, turn your thoughts around about 90 degrees and start again. in other words... they don't understand it and you explaining it the same way over again doesn't help them. try explaining it in another way... eventually you'll find a 'way' that works for them.

if possible... use something visual to assist them. as a homeschooling mom, that's what i do when my kids just don't get it. bottom line: smarties always assist a situation. don't know why... but they do and they are a very useful teaching tool! *who knew?*

Re: Has this happened to you?

Being in the technology field I can explain something to someone in the simplist form possible every day and they still won't get it. Just when I think the person has it because I haven't heard from them in a few days...here they come again! Yes I'm actually refering to an individual in one of my buildings. I try not to get frustrated, I'd rather people ask me for help then go without and complain to a higher up who will then come to me and ask me what's up. I also refer to these people as job security!

I ran into ALOT of situations where people felt they had more rank than me (which they did in years) when I was a Tech Director for a local school district. I was only 22 when I started there so if you can imagine all these people questioning how a "kid" could handle such a position...you'll have an idea of what I had to put up with. I did a dang good job with that district and they still ended up bending me over after 3yrs...but I'm not bitter.

    ...wait yes I am!
