"probing" & "popping" ?

I learned to pop from Tim Bailey. Age does come into play if you pop because as an adult, hemipenes can be harder to expose. The adults naturally have better control. But, I hear probing isn't always right because one may probe deeper than the other but both may be the same sex.

So, lets say I pop a BP.... The males have bigger spurs, correct??? I need to look around and try to find some pix!
