Good lord I use those things all the time and have actually handed one to an older child to clean up some marks or mess they've made around the house (not Mikey but I likely would have soon as I consider him big enough at 5 to help out). Thanks so much Jeanne for this post.

Okay is it just me? Who lets their kids clean their own face with a household cleanser? If you wipe Simple Green onto a carpet burn you'd get the same results.
Don't let your kids use heavy duty cleansers without telling them not to rub it on themselves.
Majic Eraser scrubs are advertised to remove nearly ANY dirt or stain, YES it is a chemical cleaner.
*shakes head*
Note: I'm not saying anyone is delibritely cleaning their kids with it, and I'm not impuning anyone's ability to raise their kids. But dang, isn't it common sense?

Wolfy, I dont think the person who had this happen to her son let it happen on purpose, it was an accident. As she said in her story I posted the link to, the packages did not even have a warning label on them... and this is what that parent had actually looked for.
While yes, I agree, there are just somethings we should not let our kids get ahold of, this parent did not know the risks b/c the manufacturer did not even give such warnings... nor ingredient lists for thier product... yes this case, was somewhat the parents fault for assumming it was safe b/c there was no actual warning on the package regarding skin contact.. it was also the maufacturers fault for not placing a warning on the label for thier product being a bit more specific as to the potential of this product.. however, the manufacturer did place a label that said "do not ingest".... thats pretty vague considering a chemical such as this can cause chemical burns on contact.
Bottom line, this stuff is obviously dangerous, and we should always remember that little kids tend to rub things on thier faces/bodies without thinking of the consequences b/c thats how kids are... heck, this kid could have rubbed his face after touching the thing and got the chemicals on his face that way.. I sincerely hope this serves as an eye opener to those who do have this stuff in thier homes, so that others will not have to have the same consequences.
And Jo, Little Mikey was definately in my thoughts on this one b/c I knew you had told me you used those also, in fact, you brought them to my attention some time ago when discussing cleaning... figured this would be the best way to let You and everyone else with wee kids to watch out when letting them use this product. I would sure hate to hear any of our kids have to go through these chemical burns b/c we lack the appropriate info on this product to make an informed decision regarding our kids use of these.

Re: VERY IMPORTANT (For those around kids who help clean)
I would assume the little fellow was likely thinking he was being a good boy and cleaning his face. I can see my own small son doing that. It's amazing how fast they get into things and how inventive small kids are.
Yep Jeanne I've used these since they came out and figured they were the safest cleaning product to have the kids help me clean with (or clean up after they've scuffed the floor or doodled on a wall or whatever). Of course a parent knows that they must have some cleaning product in them or they wouldn't work but when no warning label is apparent you expect that it's likely pretty safe stuff compared to the other cleaners available in the normal household.

Re: VERY IMPORTANT (For those around kids who help clean)
I did not mean to imply that she did. I was referring more to the responses that mentioned sueing the company(which the original person specifically stated she wasn't going to do) since it was all their fault.
My apoligies to anyone who felt I was directing the comment specifically to them.
And children will do the darnest things, especially when they are young like toddlers and slightly older. My god the things I had to stop my younger cousins from doing.. eek. Catholic families have tons of them.

Re: VERY IMPORTANT (For those around kids who help clean)
Thats horrible! Brian and I have always practiced being green, and really take it seriously when it comes to our cleaners, this is why I have ZERO chemicals in my home as far as cleaners go. Not only is it safer for me...I have really bad allergies and ashtma and react to most cleaners, but its safer for my animals, the world and our toddler. I started really cracking down when I got pregnant, and sleep better knowing that the only cleaning supplies we use are vinager, borax, lemon juice, baking soda and essential oils...even though there from the earth we still treat them like a poison, and keep everything locked in our garage.
But I to fell for this magic eraser because it doesnt explain what it is exactly, yes I did believe that anything that cant take paint right off your wall is most likely some form of harmful chemical, and will be reported as causing cancer one day..but..having a child and pets I needed something with no smell for our allergies and tried it out, it works good no doubt, and one day Raigen got into our shaprie box and drew all over her tummy...being the idiot I am and scrubbed and scrubbed with everything I could find and it wouldnt come off...soo I magic erased the spots! Did they come off? You bet....but a nasty rash was left behind, I realized that I was an idiot for doing it and was thankful it wasnt a serious reaction, I still thought it was just a rash because she is so young, but after reading that I realized just how serious it could of been.
Word to the wise.....dont magic erase your children!
