    Pippin's Hallowe'en

Pip decided he wanted to be part of our Hallowe'en decorations, and helped us give out candy. He was the bell of the ball, everyone loved him (and he was handled by many people, much to his delight).

^Warming up in my sleeve. He kept sticking his head out to watch everyone go by. It was quite cute.

And one more of him I forgot I had taken. About a month and a half ago, exploring our lawn:

Tanya,i am not being rude here.I suggest you to not allow your snake to roam around in the grass outside. The reason is you subjecting him to numerous bugs and possibly pesticieds all of which are a danger to him. When i take any of my snakes(rarely) outside i never put them down because of these same reasons.Like i said not being rude just letting you know this info .Nice looking snake though

What made you decide that I hadn't know those facts? Pestisides aren't used on our lawn (actually they are banned in our city), and haven't been for years. I know about the bug risk, and I am willing to pay for vet care if that does happen. As of right now he is in perfect health (much to the surprise of our vet as he was from a pet store) and I have access to regular vet and emergency vet care. He has not been in the lawn very often, two or three times. Most of the time when he is outdoors he is being held, but that particular day I let him explore the lawn while staying beside him at all times (and several of the neighbourhood kids watching). I know you weren't being rude but I know of the risks, and decided that it was okay. Just like I know I have to be careful with the snakes around the cats (like in the hallowe'en pictures), but again, you don't know the process of decision making I have gone through when I do put him down some place (like how that cat Molly had been sitting there for about 1 hour previously, and sat there until well after Pip was taken off the pumpkin, nor how she is the cat that keeps the other cats away from the snakes when they are out).

And he is a very nice snake all around.

Lots of people take their snakes out into the lawn for some outdoor pics. So long as they use a bit of common sense and take a few precautions, I don't see anything wrong with it. Just because you choose not to do something doesn't mean you need to tell everyone else not to.

    Re: Pippin's Hallowe'en

my snakes looooove to go outside. we have a tree we've pruned just for our hog island boa. he climbs up it, investigates every single branch (heaven forbid he miss one LOL) and then he settles, in the sun and naps. he'll stay up there for about 4 hours at a time. i sit on the lawn and watch him. a bit boring for me... cause i don't take my eyes off him (he's such a naughty boy i wouldn't trust him to stay where i put him LOL). my hubby gets the ladder out to retrieve him at the end of his bask... he hisses like crazy sounds so cute... "no dad i don't wanna go inside"

my ball python loves to stay down... he hates the tree. he prefers to rustle underneath the plants in the rock garden and hide out.

when we had bearded dragons we took them out a few times a week during the summer... to get some nice warm sunshine and UVB on them. they loooooved basking on a rock by our pond. one of our dragons even went into the water, every time we had him out and seemed to be chasing the fish in the pond LOL - i wish i had taken photos of him.

Gerat photos. I take my snakes out for daylight photos all the time in the warm parts of the year. I just check the ground first and dont let any one wander to far off. all and all there is really nothing to worry about as long as you keep an eye on them and check them over once you get them inside. Ticks and Fire ants are the biggest problem here in GA so you really have the check where you place them and then check them over very well befor you put them back in there tubs.

I wouldn't take them outdoors if it is below 75 degrees F. How cold was it? We had a chilly halloween with snow in some places, and that is NY..
That being said; I let my snakes roam on the lawn often. No pesticides are used on the hayfields that lead up to the house, and it's no problem.

Well it was around 12 C, I don't know ferenheight. It wasn't too bad. Coolish warm but not cold. He actually spent more time in my shirt then he did out on the pumpkin (about 10 minutes). He wasn't cold as we had about 5 minutes of kids followed by 5 minutes of lag time where he warmed up in my shirt. He didn't get slugish or cold to the touch. In fact he was quite active, and climbing into kids hands/exploring my head/hair. While cool, he was fine. When we came in he went back up into his tank, where he wandered about for a bit before going in his cool hide.
