So the only difference is the enclosure around the tubs?
If the closed type are better for heat control I will probably have to go for those. One question though;

Could this be caused by the open cage having a more defined light cycle? If so wouldn't it be a doddle to back light a closed rack using low energy bulbs ( almost no heat and last for years) on a timer?I've used a combination of open air racks and closed wooden/plastic racks for years and I can say with absolute certaintly that the snakes that I keep in open air racks feed, breed, and grow better than the snakes that I keep in closed racks
If you don't think its light based what else do open racks provide that closed enclosures do not? Ventilation? Are all open rack back het and all closed botom het?
As I'm still at the design stage I would apprecite any input.
