    Our Three New Male Rats

Just a few pics for fun.

This is Damian, a black male with a tiny white dash on his chest. He was less than impressed to get taken away from his first breeding cycle with three females for some dumb pics!

    Damian checking out the camera....

Lightning, named by our son Mikey, for his funny facial markings (the red mark on his tail isn't an injury, just from a marker I use to denote babies as special and not to be fed off)....

Lightning is the smallest of the new males so he's got a bit of growing before hitting the breeding tub with some of our big adult female rats....

Casanova and his look alike son Supernova....

Poor old Casanova's getting that very old rat look and recently survived a very serious attack from another adult male rat (since disposed of for bad temperment). He's doing fine though and spending his retirement with his son and the other males. I've stopped counting after old Nova fathered 300 rats. He's been an excellent producer for us and we're hoping his son Supernova does nearly as well. He does seem to share his father's extremely gentle nature and is the easiest of the new males to handle.....

Casanova in his hay day. I know it's silly but I'll miss this big old rat when his time comes and unfortunately that's likely fairly soon as he's well over 2 years old now.

Re: Our Three New Male Rats

Well even for a colony male he's always been a big favorite and was our only breeding male for a long time so he's responsible for a lot of lovely feeders. His gentle nature has made him a family favorite as well so yep he'll be missed.

Lightning is a hoot! His mother Squeekers came to us preggie from the pet store so I've no clue what male fathered her litter. She's a cute agouti capped and had a litter of very goofy looking rats. Every one of them had odd caps, dalmationing, freaky strips and stripes LOL. Lightning was just too funny looking to feed off! He should father some interesting looking rats LOL

    Squeekers (Lightning's mom)....

One more of all three boys from a couple of weeks back. Had to bribe the little buggers with a piece of cooked bacon to keep them still enough for one pic LOL....

Genetics are an odd thing. Supernova is younger (and much smaller) than Lightning in this pic. In the past two weeks he's grown so fast he's almost twice Lightning's size now. They live together, have the same food, etc.

I just love Lightning and Squeekers! I think I'd have to keep all their babies.

Hey Jo! Take a look through Jamie's thread "new rat rack". Some rat pics there you might find interesting (one of mine and one of Jamie's).

Oh Becky my rat expert LOL. I'll have to go look up examples of masked vs capped so I get the terminology down better.
