    Beginning of my 'mini' colony.

Rodent prices are crazy here in WA and since I hate having to try and get a hold of suppliers for my live I decided to start up a mini colony myself. Not a lot of room here but enough for a decent rack.

These are my starter girls, the two albinos were to be dinner, there were three but one of my 'picky' ladies decided to feast today so we're down to two.
There is a masked girl, a dumbo blue self, a dumbo black hooded and a rex blue hooded.

These are my two boys. Rex berks.

Yeah, she's a doll, very sweet.
Sadly I haven't named anyone yet. Though the boys are my favorite, very laid back in comparison to the girls.

Oh very nice group to start with! Those boys are mink colored correct? I've got a couple of mink females and I just love that soft color. Heck I figure if you're breeding feeders, they may as well be cute ones LOL (and nice if you are selling off some extras for pets).

Yep, the boys are mink. The problem with starting out with cute ones is the babies are sure to be cute LOL. My last colony was all the white lab rats so there was no markings to get attatched to.

I must be odder than even I know I am LOL. I don't really mind feeding "cute" rats. I'd rather have a colony of cute rats with unique markings and colors (actually easier to tell the little furry buggers apart) than a whole bunch of albino rats any day.

Re: Beginning of my 'mini' colony.

Toledo must be the center of the universe for boring rodents LOL. I've called every pet store, chain and private, and nobody has much, other than albino rats and some plain old hoodeds - forget about rex or dumbo ear, let alone any interesting colors. Mice, well forget that....nothing but albinos in this town. The only pet store that ever has anything of interest in their feeder tanks isn't a great pet store (very overcrowded rodent tanks, etc.) so I'm very careful what I buy from there.

Wow Franky. I just had someone offer me a black dumbo female, a blue dumbo female and a blue dumbo male for 8.00 for the three. Rats seem to be pretty popular out here in WA. If shipping wouldn't kill us I'd offer to send you some.
