A fire?

As some of you know I live with a very paronid father.

He now just saw that I have a Ranco ETC-111000 Pre Wired. He noticed that I have all my flexwatt pludged in to it that is taking up all 5 plugs. He flipped out and said that it's going to start a fire and that I need to unplug 3 of them. I told him that could not do that then he said they either get unpludged or the snakes need to go.


So now how many of you on here have your flexwatt's pieces plugged in to the plug holes?

Have you ever had a problem?

I don't get it... you have each Flexwatt strip plugged into the powerstrip? Are they all on a rack or different cages?

I don't think there should be a problem, but the typical method is to wire the flexwatt together for a rack environment and having it terminate with just one plug.

Typical for some, not for me. I like having a separate plug for each piece. That way if something stops working I can pretty easily pinpoint the problem without messing with all the heat in the rack.

Yes they are all plugged in to the one power strip that is wired to my t-stat. Also all 5 pieces of flexwatt are to different tanks/tubs.

I too like the way I have it set up now, yeah a lot of wires but a few months ago something happened to one piece of my flexwatt and it just stoped working. It was very easy to figure it out and to fix the problem (got a new piece of flexwatt). I'm not sure if I would have had it ALL connected together for like a rack system, if it would have killed all of the other pieces heat or what not.

I so far never (*knocks on wood*) have had a problem.

I like them on their own plug because if you aren't using a particular shelf in the rack, you can unplug the specific shelf.

That is mighty sweet right there. You could probably wire some patch cords also to bypass troubled/unused bits. Do you wire the last peice of flex in the chain in any way different, like using those to allow more flext to be added instead of just terminating it?

This also means you can only run 6 tubs. If you have a large rack with more than 6, it is much easier and cheaper to have them all wired together

I have one strip of flexwatt on each shelf. Each shelf holds 5 tubs.

Besides, they make powerstrips with more than 6 outlets. If you get a raw Ranco and wire the powerstrip yourself, you can get what ever size powerstrip you need, without going over the total wattage that the Ranco can handle.
