    Problem or am I paranoid?

My BP is now a year and a half old.

Last few days she's been acting a little differnet - more active - and not sleeping in her hides (nothing has changed and both hides are exactly the same) she just doesn't seem to be in them and is resting instead in front of them or half sprawled onto of her warm hide.

She is more active than normal - and starts moving about whenever we approach her viv as if she wants out or food. So I gave her a meal today and watched her (well I am paranoid LOL) and afterward she was rubbing her face a lot on the paper towels after feeding (normal I'm sure, my sav rubs his face after a meal).

I looked in on her earlier and she was resting with her head and neck upwards against the side of the viv (I don't normally watch that closely but she used to just go off into her hide to let meal digest, but then it wasn't a large one this time). Do they stay upright a bit to let it go down more or could it be an RI? Various of us have listened to see if we can hear anything and looked at her mouth (though not inside) and closely at her nostrils but she looks totally normal.

Do they get active times of the year?

Could be the changing external conditions like time of year, weather, barametric pressure etc etc. Ya never know. Are the hides too small?? and what are you feeding her? maybe she is getting hungrier faster than she use to be?? i am not saying for sure just an opinion, or possible suggestions.

Re: Problem or am I paranoid?

I was hoping to hear something like that. I went in to check on her before I went to bed and she had her head and neck resting up against the side of the viv near to where the sliding glass door opens (that's what freaked me out last time) - there's just a slight crack there where the probe lead for the digital t. goes in and maybe she can smell the air outside As soon as she spotted me she moving about and begging for out. The probe had moved a bit so I repositioned it an in that time she was out and cruising.

The food thing could be it too, her last couple of meals have been a bit smaller I couldn't get a small rat previous time so she had 2 smaller rodents instead. Her hides are still OK for her. So I'm guessing it must be extra hungry mode or maybe change in season like you said. It seemed silly really me posting this as (apart from the head and neck up thing) I would say she's acting like a 3-year old human toddler - doesn't matter what time of day it is - doesn't want to stay in and wants out and moving around. LOL

Precious likes to prop his head on his hide and watch things. Freddie is ALWAYS climbing the glass or trying to get back up into the lights (but I have them blocked off now where he can't move it anymore and curl around the bulbs.) He likes to do the snake charmer stretch and stay wrapped around the tubing that is attached to the humidifier....just hanging around

I can understand your concern, but it sounds normal to me.

How much does she weigh? I've noticed our females go through a distinct change in attitude, feeding, reaction to handling, etc. around 800 or 900 grams and it lasts till they are a good 1,200 grams or more. Seems a sort of teenage thing (Adam calls it teenage angst) as they start maturing into adult females. Maybe this is what's up with your female. As always though, of course watch her health and doublecheck all your husbandry to make sure that there isn't any underlying issues there that are causing her change of behaviour.

I completely agree with Joanna!! When my girls break 1000 grams and it is close to breeding season they get the "food" on the brain. It's like they are starving all the time, probably a last ditch attempt to gain weight before breeding season. I would suspect if you fed a smaller meal that could be part of the cause. Just double check your temps and relax, it's normal.

Re: Problem or am I paranoid?

Thank you for your replies, folks. That's good to know. I weighed her just now and she's 1225g (she's over a year old now). It's actually the first time I've weighed her but I could tell she was growing and getting longer and fatter and was healthy. It does seem like an always hungry thing - good to know it's all normal. After I posted this morning she did actually disappear into her hide for the rest of the day and didn't get up till about 9 - still active now though. She used to be content to be a lap-python - but she's always off exploring now - silly thing got herself stuck in a mug handle last night  Must admit if she doesn't move from her hide for a while I wonder if she's alive!! Poor things just can't win

    Thanks again for your reassurances.
