I set up a 40qt with UTH set on top of particle board, with the cover on it and have been having some trouble getting the cool side temp up. It is like 6.5x25x16.5 (i think) and i am haveing a heck of a time warming that side up. I even tried to crank the hot side up as high as possible (no worries no snakes in there) and it still hoverd around 76 cool side while the hot side was up to like 130 ish. so make sure you set up the tank and play with it for a good long time before puttin anything in there, i ve tried with 2 types of bedding and now with just an empty tub with no luck on that cool side temp. P.S. How well does your new rack hold a gradient??

What is the room temperature? I've heard the room needs to be at or above 78 for the cool side to be in the 80s range without another piece of flexwatt under it. Also, the particle board, if that is the board that has all those holes on it to put pegs in to hang things up, may be letting too much heat escape if there is a particle board under the tub as well.
